👋 Introduction (Career Paths in Game UI/UX)

Game UI/UX is a multidisciplinary field, and depending on the studio size or project scope, roles may be highly specialized or combined. Below are some of the key roles you might come across:

UI Artist

UI Artists focus on the visual style of the interface. They design menus, HUDs, buttons, icons, and other in-game elements to ensure the game looks polished and visually consistent with its theme or art direction.

Key Skills: Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, design systems, graphic design principles.

Focus: Aesthetics, layout, and style consistency.

UX Designer

UX Designers handle the player experience, how users interact with the game’s interface and how intuitive or satisfying that experience feels.

Key Skills: Wireframing, user flow mapping, usability testing, research.

Focus: Clarity, flow, feedback, accessibility, and cognitive load.

Technical UI Designer

This role bridges design and implementation. Technical UI Designers often use game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity to bring UI designs to life through scripting, Blueprints, or logic-based setups.

Key Skills: Blueprint scripting (Unreal), C# (Unity), UMG, motion design, animation triggers.

Focus: Making UI functional and interactive in-engine.

UI Programmer

UI Programmers take things further by writing custom code to implement complex UI behaviors, integrate backend systems, and optimize performance.
